Rap Wars, East New York Style

Filed under: Mixes, This Is Hip Hop

I promised myself that I would upload another hip hop mix this past weekend, mainly to showcase a few of the records that I tend to gravitate toward this time of year. Before the emails hit my inbox, I don’t wish to enforce the belief that these are the “most slept-on records of the ’90s” or take a stroll down the tired “remember when hip hop was good?” memory trip. Rather, this is simply a result of a rare few hours with my records on a Saturday afternoon. I stuck to two rules during the process: the artists had to be from New York, and each release had to fall within the time frame of the mid-’90s, give or take a year or two. Take the title of the mix with a grain of salt as well, as I couldn’t be satisfied with “November Hip Hop Mix” or something similar. Enjoy.

That mix is incredible…in fact I think its actually the only mixtape I’ve downloaded in its entirety from the Internet. Great great work.

Downloading it now, tracklist looks good. Haven’t listened to Group Home in a minute.

I love these mixes you have here. Over @ illRoots we have a dream of one day making weekly mixes and everytime I pop these in it makes me want to mix myself something new.

Great, great selection my friend.
But without getting into a DMC routine, why are your transitions so long when you beatmatch…? it kinda bugs me when i hear lyrics over lyrics…

Paypercut - I cringe a little when I listen to this mix now for that very reason. At the time I was into making the crossfades as long and seamless as possible with little regard for the vocals overlapping.

Wow, this is a great web site. I am so glad I found it, thank you. It is funny, I was just talking to my friend about their web site, and they said they like your site too!
