The Charm of the Successive “Z”

Still under a spell of hibernation while I continue contemplating about the future of this little corner of the internets.

In the meantime, do yourself a favor and pick up Behemoth’s Evangelion (2009), a fine piece of no-frills, epic-in-scope, phenomenally-executed death metal that has been melting my face on the daily.  (And in a year overflowing with quality metal releases, this is no small statement.)  Any record that opens with what sounds like a bloodbath on Judgement Day and still manages to reach number one on the Polish music charts is worthy of attention.

Holy cow, Flood. Great recommendation.

In all honesty I wasn’t going to listen to this because of the places it was getting praise from made it seem like not my thing. But um, that’s clearly not the case. Thanks for shining light.

I know, I thought the same thing before I actually heard the record. It’s too easy to hate on Behemoth because of their (relative) success and their fans, but honestly, there isn’t a harder working band in metal today (or for the past 15 years, for that matter). Even if Evangelion was mediocre, they’d still deserve it.

loving the archives, but looking forward to this blog’s glorious revival…

random Q: your thoughts on Converge? tried their latest, “Axe to Fall”?

PS The Evangelion recommendation is super spot-on thanks!

PPS, Amie Street has the whole album on sale for $2.70! http://amiestreet.com/music/behemoth/evangelion/

I’ve listened to Axe to Fall three times in its entirety over the past week. It’ll be one of my year-end favorites for sure.
